About

My name is Alex: software engineer, roller derby athlete, citizen.

I’m a professional with years of experience in enterprise software development. After graduating in 2013 from UNC Chapel Hill with a B.S. in Computer Science and Mathematics, I worked for IBM at North Carolina’s Research Triangle Park. In June of 2016, I took an employment hiatus in order to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail. After returning to civilization, I grew my knowledge of safety-critical software development as a Software Engineer for Universal Avionics in Redmond. While at Universal, I also honed my managerial skills as a Team Lead and Group Lead. These days, I am using my skills to drive progressive change as a software engineer for MoveOn! It is a joy to support a member-led, community-driven organization committed to justice, equity, and progress.

My professional strengths include clear technical communication to various audiences, skilled application of my strong mathematics background, and leadership in both formal roles and informal group settings. Areas of particular interest to me are algorithm design and analysis, and the intersection of technology and society.

When I’m not coding, I enjoy hiking, reading, drawing, and all hands-on crafts. I also stay busy as a skater and volunteer for Rat City Roller Derby, Seattle’s premier flat-track roller derby league.
